Igeres HaRambam (Class 3)

Igeres HaRambam (Class 3)

Show notes

The Ramban highlights the importance of Anavah—humility—as a foundational midah. According to Sefer Tomer Devorah, humility serves as a superconductor for acquiring all other positive character traits. Ultimately, Anavah leads to Yirat Shamayim (awe of Hashem), which in turn fosters Sameach B’chelkeinu—true contentment with one’s lot in life.

But how does one actually attain this level of contentment? While Pirkei Avos teaches that the truly wealthy person is satisfied with what they have, the Mishnah does not outline how to achieve that satisfaction. The Ramban, however, provides a roadmap:

1️⃣ Eliminate Anger – Serenity is impossible if one is easily upset. 2️⃣ Overcome Pride – The need for recognition can erode happiness. 3️⃣ Embrace Humility – A humble person finds peace within. 4️⃣ Develop Bitachon (Trust in Hashem) – True contentment comes from believing that nothing happens by chance, even when life seems unfair.

In this episode, we also explore the difference between happiness and joy—and which one is truly worth pursuing. Tune in for an insightful discussion!
